So I did. 1997 Gallo Sonoma Stefani Vineyard. Almost overripe plummy, black cherry fruits hit the nose with liberal doses of cardamon, cinnamon, earth, and cassis all are evident in the nose and palate.Still soft tannins shut down the aftertaste so look for this neat bottling to peak in another 2-4. Like the other 2 Vineyard bottlings, beautifuuly rendered and killer values. 91/92. 25 by the box. 14.2%alc. WW

'Tis time folk! These definately need to be drunked up. Not over the hill but the plumminess is about to take control which would really kill this nice bottle. Again let me stress this is still imminently drinkable and satisfying but old plum be sneakin' in the back door. WW

BRW and I had this and the lovely 97 Frei at our lunch yesterday. Both bottles are definately at TTOTG. The Frei has taken on some seconday notes that make it a dead ringer for a baby Heitz Marthas. The Stephanie has held but still needs drinking. Score the Frei the same as the Stephanie. Good stuff. WW

Well BRW and I had the same 2 hummers for lunch yesterday at the club only this time I had them decanted and filtered and served blind. Both wines benefited from the decanting. Both showed very well but the Stefanie definately was clearly the slight favorite of all who partooked. The filtering was a definate plus and both wines are still holding as steady as Bucko to hims wallet whenced the check arrives. Could possibly kick both up a point but who gives a rats? WW

Celebrated the great news with one of my closest aand dearest today at the club and as he had never had one of the single vineyard Gallos' I brought this and the 97 Barilli Creek. Both were decanted and the Barilli was filtered as it has loads of fine tannins. Both wines are holding great, both are tasty as all git-out, and both impressed my bud. As I'm out of stroke I can just say them dudes drink great. WW
