A very nice Cab showing classic cab flavors of plum, cassis and a hint of mocha. Dusty tannins are present on the nice finish. This bottle flattened out though after several hours becoming somewhat flabby but showed well during the first two so drink this in a small window. 13.9%Alc/vol. $12.

Now I understand the 3,4 lapper finish...sort of like NASCAR Racing.

Just got another box of this lil' gem in day 'afore yesserday and had one last nite. An amazing bottle for the bucks. Gonna let a couple sit in the cellar for another couple and see how they age. The balance bodes well. A real head-shaker. 88/95 11 by the box. 13.9% alc. WW

We have an Avalon, California, that we picked up for $10. I assume this is different from the Napa Valley?

- winoweenie - 02-12-2005

I'm sure 'tis Ik. As youse knows when them dudes can use Napa they use it. WW

2002 Avalon, California, Cabernet Sauvignon ($10 The Clown, Belfast). Alcohol level 13.5%. The grapes for this wine are allegedly sourced from Napa and Sonoma Counties. The wine is made approachable, and supple enough for Merlot drinkers.

Gives you blackberries and black cherries (but no black currents) along with some smoke and chocolate on the nose and upfront. Nice complexity across the palate with a lot of help from oak giving vanilla and spicy nuances. All following by a respectfully lingerling finish.

Matched with broiled fillet steaks in bacon rasher seasoned with OO and Morton Rub, salad in vinaigrette, candlelight, soft music, and ice cream for dessert.

Not bad for ten bucks.

IK, do you know if any Merlot is blended in?
With the Avalon C.S. from Napa there is some Merlot in the blend.

Nothing on the bottle indicating any Merlot added. They do have the statement, "We produce only Cabernet Sauvignon."
