The Clos Apalta bottling with Carmenère, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec that was great when I first tasted it two years back has lost it. I was sure it would be much better now and was very unpleasently suprised when i poured it with Christmas dinner. It fell from a beautiful young wine with just the right amount of French Oak to a flat dry loser. 92 two years back. 82 now.

Is it a highly extracted wine?

Origionally it seemed to be or at least much more than now. This time around it was light feeling and super dry with none of the beautiful fruit that sold me on it two years back. I hope the next few vintages have faired better. Maybe I should get to them sooner rather than later. Then again it is very possible I got a bad bottle. I know it isn't a starage issue. Oh well. There was plenty of other great bottles to make Christmas shine!!!!
