1998 Paso Robles Cellars (a.k.a. Tobin James), Paso Robles, Cabernet Sauvignon ($45 list, but came in the fall ’03 shipment). Alcohol level: 13.8%. It gave lots of mature red and black fruit on the nose and upfront. There was more of the same in the middle, with hints of violets, cassis, and plenty of Paso complexity and dirt in the middle. The tannin was still chewy and delightful. The finish went on and on.

We matched it with rib eyes grilled over charcoal and oak chunks along with portabellas, and roasted baby Yukon Gold potatoes, and Italian beans. It made for a great Fathers’ Day dinner. Yeah, I know it’s tomorrow, but we celebrated tonight.
