($19.99; 13.9%) medium reddish purple. very good nose of dusty black cherry & blackbery, with a hint of herbs. very good similar flavors, with vanilla and chocolate on the finish. good entry and midpalate, expands on the finish. medium body, good acidity and fine tannins. the most noteworthy aspect was this wine's balance. i know from previous experience that this bottling is usually singing 5-8 years after the vintage year. at its earlier pricing of $15, this wine used to be a great bargain. at $20, a wine needs to have a "wow" element, whether it be intensity, complexity or flavor profile for me to purchase more. this one doesn't wow me. just another very good, 88+ point $20 cali cab.

Hi Keith, we are going to spend a week at Indian Rocks Beach starting on February 24, '05. Maybe we can get together for a glass or two.

hi IK. we absolutely will get together. remind me as we get closer to the date. the only wild card for me is if my wife has a break from school during one of the two weeks you're here. if she doesn't, i'll definitely be in town and wide open. you must go to the salt rock grill for dinner (http://www.saltrockgrill.com/), it's right up the road from where you'll be staying. and one night you need to make the drive over to tampa to have dinner at berns (http://www.bernssteakhouse.com/bs_frame.htm). one of the best steaks in the country and the biggest wine list in the country (although you can't tell that from the abbreviated version you'll find on their website.) i really look foward for meeting you and sharing a few bottles of my best -- which is pretty modest by most standards
