Salmon Creek Cabernet '97 TN from Tom Hill:
It's a strange wine that begins with a light, earthy bouquet. Then, the attack delivers chocolate, followed by dark, ripe fruit at mid palate, and finishes with lots of smoky oak. It has lots of complexity but comes off heavy handed, with the tannins turning a bit bitter on the finish. Because of the intrinsic interest, we repeated the tasting and experienced the same result. Around $15.
