The benchmark wine so far from this beautiful property atop Spring Mtn. Beautifully balanced with lots of up-front red and black fruits, cedar shavings, cassis and solid tannins in the back. Hopefully they caan put their problems behind them and make some more solid citizens like this bottling. A real product of this outstanding vinrtage. 91/89. 55 by the box.13.9% alc. WW

You are definitely delving into the biggies now, WW. I notice more 97's and less 94's, lately.

Very observant there Ole' keen-eyed one. Time to start on preliminary 97s' evaluations. A friend is flying into Tuscon and CB and I are meeting them for dinner tonight along with 2 of his business associates. Am taking over 7 or 8 97s' and will group report on them Sat or Sun. Haven't decided which'uns I'll tote but will take a mixture of light & heavy weights. So far looks like the excitement about the 97s' 'twernt all hype. WW

Actually we decided to take over the following bottles; 94 Ferrari/Carona, 95 Viader, Pride,Craig Affinity, Silver Oak Alex and Napa. Then the following 97s; Raymond Reserve,
Schweiger Spring Mtn, Lewelling Wight Vineyard, and Flora Springs Hillside. Flighted as follows; 1st) Ferrari, Silver Alex, Raymond' Craig, and Schweiger. All were very enjoyable but the crowd who originally lovingly stroked the Silver unamiously had the Schweiger a hands-down winner. The 2nd was really tough as all of the juice had some real merit.Came down to a split-decision between the Lewelling and the Flora. Hard as the blazes choosing between the 2. Seems like there ia a tad more juice in the Hillside and may have a little more staying power. At my age, would take 2 bottles a day of either to finalize my drinking habit. Made lots of new converts to Napa juice, and to finish the nite opened a bottle of the 1975 Don Pedro Ximinez obtained from the mighty Roberto that killed all the ducks on the pond. Think everyone slept as well as we did. Great nite, good frenz, kick-patootie food, and plenty of drinkable juice. LIFE IS GOOD!!! WW
