I am getting married Sept. 25th and we are having a vegetarian buffet, with items such as wild mushroom dishes, butternut squash soup, cous cous with red lentils and grilled veggies, curried chickpea pilaf, etc. We are serving only wine and microbrews. What do you suggest for a nice assortment...ie. chard, cab sav, pinot grigio, etc. and what brands? approx. $8-15/bottle. Thanks.

I'd me more inclined to serve Sauvignon Blanc than Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir rather than Cabernet.

Re Sauv Blanc I especially like Geyser Peak, Chateau Souverain, Simi and Canyon Road.

For value Pinot Noir check out Meridian, Napa Ridge and Rodney Strong.

A White Zinfandel would be popular too. Delicato is a Best Buy...Beringer is very popular.

Ditto. Wine is, after all, a vegetarian beverage. But for added interest, you might consider some brands known for their organic farming methods and/or natural yeast/non-sulphur winemaking. Fetzer is a good brand for the former, and Frog's Leap for all of the above. And if your retailer happens to carry French wines imported by Kermit Lynch, you can be reasonably sure that those wines represent some combination of organic, unsulphured and unfiltered winemaking, yet are invariably pretty damn good tasting. Why not?
