One of the few years the Special Selection grapes were used in the regular Napa bottling. Was looking for something really special in this bottling, maybe too much, but this wine caame up a tad short. Nice medium ruby. Black cherries, spices and plums on the nose with a touch of oak. all come across on the palate along with some cream brulee and flowers. A fine bottle that comes up short only when compared to the outstanding 94 & 95 vintages. Still a solid 90/90. 60 by the box. 14.5% alc. WW

This needed revisiting as I was slightly dissapointed with the last bottle. Musta' been slighly off as this bottle had everything you'd want in a Napa cab. Deep concentrated nose and the entry was as soft as Charmin. Weighty center and a 4+lapper finish. Kick this hummer up a notch to 91. WW

Fortunately I drank mine a couple years ago before the fire, and it was YUMMY! I thought the 96' was very approachable young, not as much the case with both the 97 regular bottling & the special select.

Opened the last of the mohicans today for lunch. Has finally made the jump from great to outstanding. The aromatics have become heady with huge amounts of flowers, red and black fruits, and sweet spices. All hit the palate with the addition of some leathery-saddle-yummy-for-the-tummy old fashioned earth. The finish has lengthened to a solid 4&1/2 lapper. This bugger is a solid 92. WW
