yesterday afternoon when CorkDork called and was on hias way over. He's heading to No(SO) Dakota to inkure some innocent birds and is responsible for suppluing the wines for one night. He decided to take a bevy of 98s just to show the geeks in his crowd that there were some drinkable wines made in that vintage. I told him I had a couple he didn't so supplied him a Miura and Raymong Generations both of which are drinking swimmingly. Natuarlly we decided it was far to hot to attempt to drive the 4 miles from my place to his without some fortificatioon so I opened a 98 Silver Oak Napa. Must say it was a pleasant surprise and was very typical of this bottling once it gets some age on it. Brite ruby. No rim. Nose of red fruits, pencil shavings, graphite, and a tad of earthy leather. Neat entry, solid center and a 4 lapper finish. He's taking one of these from his cellar along with 4 or 5 other plus the 2 from mine so think he'll get the last smirk! Neat stuff and he made it home without incident. WW
