- oostexan - 05-19-2007 Listed by my order of preference: 2004 Shafer 1.5 Cabernet - took a good thirty minutes, but this wine was just singing with dark fruit, a huge nose of current, dark cherries, wonderful texture in the mouth, and lovely firm tannins. Wonderful wine. 2000 A. Clape Cornas - Deep nose of earth and fruit with leather and mineral on a long finish. Very structured and wonderful with food. Perfect with the Lamb chop that I was enjoying. 2002 L'aventure Syrah - Bright blue berry fruit, deeply concertrated, long finish. Has a deep refinement of high quality cali Syrah. Excellent wine. 2005 Amon Ra - Lovely floral bouquet of dark fruit, leads with a fair amount of oak followed by deep, dark, and densely concentrated Shiraz. Long finish. Another fantastic wine that has not quite come together yet. Still a little disjointed. I gave the lead to the Shafer because it has a wonderful texture in the mouth that put it ahead of the others. All of them were great. Mark - brappy - 05-20-2007 Great notes, Mark! I keep hearing great things about the Shafer 1.5. Is this an estate Cab? mark - oostexan - 05-20-2007 Nope. It is all SLD fruit, but some portion is sourced. Not sure what the percentages are of estate vs. purchased grapes. - Bucko - 05-21-2007 I posted a note about a month ago on the 1.5 -- good juice. I picked up some Amon Ra, but cellared it away for a distant day. - winoweenie - 05-21-2007 I too put away the Amon Ra and the 1.5. Loved both and thank you both fer some good advice fer a change.(giggle,snort). Even ole "leather-tongue" Bucksnort gets an acorn ebber now and then. WW - oostexan - 05-21-2007 I need to try them side by side, but I have a feeling that I would prefer the Godolphin over the Amon Ra Shiraz. I have tasted them both separately and remember the Godolphin being one of the best wines that I had had in a long time. |
