Out of Amador County, CA. The nose is dark cherries and jammy fruits. Initial taste is plums & cherries with a touch of spice. For me, it then moved on to licorice and coffee flavors, finally dossolving into some greenish olives. The finish is anywhere from 30-60 seconds. A little tannic, especially noticeable in the cheeks, but surprisingly smooth for a 2001. The gal thinks another year or two might be in order, but still quite drinkable. Cost only $13, which we felt was a very nice price for this approachable wine. Served with gumbo, which was maybe a bit illogical, but I don't think either (wine or gumbo) suffered from the pairing.
