Notes from the wines we served for my brother's wedding ... Roberto might have some other comments to add.

NV Veuve Fourny et Fils Premier Cru Réserve Brut Champagne: From Vertus, near Epernay. I believe this is a blanc de noirs. Pale straw yellow, very fine bubbles. Powerful nose showing yeast, baked apple and nuts. Beautiful on the tongue, nice medium-plus body, bursting with apple and toasty almond flavors and a creamy texture. A nice long aftertaste. Three years in French oak, according to their web site.

1999 Lakeville Ranch Sauvignon Blanc Maxwell Vineyard: Pale yellow-green color. Strong grassy and herbaceous scents and green tomato aroma mask subtle notes of citrus fruit and peach. Nicely balanced between round citrus (notably some lime) & melon fruit up front and acid and oak on the finish. Some delicate herbal notes as well. This was a very appropriate match for the citrus chicken skewers.

1997 Pepperwood Grove Pinot Noir: A deep garnet. Luscious, sweet-smelling nose of plum, black cherry and raspberry, with a mouth-watering tartness and some vanilla oak. Flavors mirror the scents; the tannins are softened, the oak is not bitter but complementary. Light body. Good acidity for a Cali wine of this age. Juicy cherry, red fruit and ripe berry flavors that stay glued to the palate. Here is a previous thread on this wine:

Voilà!

Sounds terrific. If you liked the Pepperwood Grove Pinot (and we do too), try their syrah. It will knock your socks off.

I should try to find that Syrah. I've heard good things about it elsewhere as well. I liked the Pinot, it was a little fruitier than my normal preference but a nice wine, and most of all it was a GREAT match with the salmon dish.
