Well here's the short version...not well attended, 300+ out of 600 tickets sold. Do ya think the snow, sleet and freezing rain storm had anything to do with that...he should have cancelled given the advance notice of the impending storm but with 42 tables I guess that was a little tough. Most wines we tried were average, just average which was disappointing. Here's some impressions.

04 Worthy Sophia's Cuvee nice but not worth the $27

05 Truth red was very good for $16

04 Rutherford Ranch Cab too soft and 1 dimensional for me $12

05 Lockwood Pinot block 7 nice but simple $18

03 Ramey claret Napa very good $36

03 Marquis De Caceras red Rioja very soft $10

05 Villa Maria Cab/merlot really thin and below average $22

05 Villa Maria Pinot Noir very good with brite flavors $19

04 Alexander Valley Cab average $17

04 " " Merlot dead fruit w/tannins $18

05 " " Pinot nice but $25 a bit high

05 " " Zin very ordinary $18

02 Barclay Zin Very Good, lush almost cab like $22 if you like your zin tasting like a cab

04 Wente syrah very,very good for $12

04 Wente Charles Wetmore Cab $21 ok but not worth the money

04 Domain de Montpeat Cab/syrah Prestige Very good $13

04 Domaine Mas Carlot Mourvedre/syrah enfants Teribles Very nice for $11

04 Domaine font de Michelle CDP Pape Rough Cuvee Etienne Gonnet Nice but $57?

05 Marquis Phillips Sarahs Blend and Shiraz big Oz fruit bombs which I enjoy on occassion $14

Tried both of the 05 Francis Coppola Director's Cut Pinot and Zin average at $22 and $18

02 St Supery Cab $24 and nice and the 02 Elu Meritage Red (Cab, merlot and petite verdot) a step up from average for $35

03 Sequoia Grove Cab don't waste your money $31

02 Columbia Crest Walter Clore Private Reserve excellent at $36

03 Chateau Ste. Michelle Cab Indian Wells very good $16

03 Allegrini Palazzo della Torre below average for $18...lean

AND THE WINE OF THE SHOW FOR ME WAS.....

03 FOLIE A DEUX NAPA CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Drop dead gorgeous cab, complex with good fruit and structure for $16 by the box yet drank like a wine 3 times the price.

If anyone wants more detail on any of the above wines send me a response and I'll go over my notes. Overall the wines were average, internationally styled and one dimensional. The Northwest wines showed well. I was disappointed that there was a shortage of Zins.

My kind of notes for so many wines Drew. Thanks for taking the time.

I'm steering clear of Allegrini after disappointment of the last couple of years....

Thanks for the notes!

THAT IS A LOT OF WINES DUDE!!! Kinda makes drinkers at Fells Point look like amateurs.

Thanks for the notes. I wanted to try the Folie a Deux the last time I was there but it sounds like it should definitely be a stop this time.

Here's a few thoughts as follow up and add a few points to all the wines due to palate fatigue.

If you find the 02 Barclay Zin give it a try. This one stood out for me in that it was unusual, cab like displaying some currant flavors with lush fruit, a little underbrush and chewy tannins.

The 04 Wente syrah was a very good QPR with chocolaty blackberry and some good ol NW dirt. I'm always impressed with NW wines as they seem to display terroir more times than not, compared to their California counter parts which, to me, seem to be producing a more fruit forward style.

The Charles Wetmore Cab just didn't show well and I'm gonna revisit it and post later.

Both of these, 04 Domain de Montpeat Cab/syrah Prestige Very good $13
and
04 Domaine Mas Carlot Mourvedre/syrah enfants Teribles Very nice for $11
showed very well and were good QPRS. Both had good balance, fruit and some complexity showing earthy and terroir nuances and very reasonable price tags.
