2012 Cayuse The Widowmaker Cabernet Sauvignon En Chamberlin Vineyard - newsguy - 03-17-2015 Decanted 3 hours. Purplish black; opaque. Rich nose of dark fruit, roasted meat and violets. Big flavors of same plus a hint of tar. A strong entry and midpalate followed by a very long, expanding finish. Tannins are big but manageable. If tasted blind, I wouldn't have pegged this as a cab. Seems very much like a syrah. Not surprising I guess, given the producer. Really big wine, but remarkably balanced. Clearly this is just a baby, but is extremely drinkable now after a decant. I expect that with time this will put on a few more points and end up in the classic range. For now, 94+ points. RE: 2012 Cayuse The Widowmaker Cabernet Sauvignon En Chamberlin Vineyard - Innkeeper - 03-17-2015 Sounds interesting; how much did it set you back? RE: 2012 Cayuse The Widowmaker Cabernet Sauvignon En Chamberlin Vineyard - newsguy - 03-18-2015
Sounds interesting; how much did it set you back?
I was fortunate that a friend shared this with me. I belive it's about $120 from the winery if you're on their list. On the secondary market this seems to go for $175 and up. Big bucks, but a great wine. WA gave this 96-98 points. RE: 2012 Cayuse The Widowmaker Cabernet Sauvignon En Chamberlin Vineyard - TheEngineer - 03-24-2015 Nice notes! Will look to see if I have similarly giving friends ![]() |
