Which Wine Cooler would you recommend? - georgetollman - 02-04-2015

Hey all,

I'm pretty new to wine but have decided to take it a step further. I have a number of bottles in my fridge at the moment and my wife isn't too happy about it so I thought that maybe it's time start investing in a wine frigde/cooler Smile

Do you guys have any recommendations?

I'm probably looking for something to hold around 20 bottles or so and hopefully one that can hold as many varieties as possible that is pretty quiet as I'll most likely have it in my kitchen. I read a lot of reviews like this one, and it appears that the Haier 18 bottle seems to be one of the better ones out there so I'm considering getting that. The only downside seems to be that it doesn't fit all bottle sizes. What do you guys think? Do any of you have this particular model or would you recommend something else?

Any help is appreciated!

Euro Cave I understand is reliable for a small unit. Just a word to caution you about throwing away money. In ALL my life every person who bought a small fridge overbought the sucker in a Very short time, went on the market and bought a bigger one and so it went till they built their own cellar. Just sayin. Good luck. WW

Good advice from WW. Before making a suggestion would like to know where you live (just state would be fine) and whether you have a basement?

Hey there - thanks for the suggestions. This is valuable information to know with regard to buying a smaller unit. How large of a unit would you recommend?

I'm based in Illinois. I do have a basement, but I'm afraid it may be a little on the cold side for storing wine at this point in time - certainly the reds. Maybe I'm wrong.

I wouldn't worry about how cold the basement is; it surely isn't as cold as your fridge. Even if it warms up in summer, it should still be cool enough for storage. You can store your wine there for a fraction of the cost of the unit(s) you will need for upstairs storage. You can find wine racks almost anywhere. If you don't want to search online, ask the people in your wine store. Buy units that can easily be added to when necessary. Cheers!

Solid suggestion. WW

All solid advice. I have a small area in the basement with racking and bins for about 400 bottles with plenty of room for cases and that area stays 55 to 60 degrees year round. I also have two 32 bottle wine jails in my mud/laundry room off the kitchen which also stays low sixties year round for quick grabs.
