Just introducing myself - georgetollman - 02-01-2015

Hi all,

Just want to introduce myself.

I have recently started taking an interest in wine and have come to the point where I want to start learning more about it. At this point I can identify which lines I like, and which I don’t, but I really hope to be able to take it a step further and understand what makes it so that I like certain wines and that I don’t like others.

I’d also like to start experimenting with wines from different countries and regions. So far I’ve mostly stuck to wines that I know from California, but I’d like to broaden that interest a little. Any suggestions from you guys would be much appreciated of course?

I’m hoping to tap into the expertise that you guys have in the field as I’m sure many of you know a heck of a lot more than I do. If there are any resources that you guys can recommend that will help me learn about wine I would sincerely appreciate it.

Cheers,
George

Welcome to the board George. You're poised to go on one magical journey. I have a suggestion that will help. When you decide the wines that hit the spot ie: cabernets, pinots, or zinfandels go to that thread and open it and start backwards. This board contains more REAL knowledge without the pomp and vitrol than any I've ever seen. Unfortunately I'm about to hang up my Riedels. I haven't quit completely but at a smooth 89 yars my ole' body told me no more bottle a day at lunch. I'll be here daily so if you find you have specific questions I can probably be of some help. We've had some of the best palates in America on this board all you have to do is look them up. Good drinking and again Welcome. Winoweenie ( WW )

Welcome onboard! I look forward to seeing what you've had to drink and what your impressions are! this is a really friendly bunch so come back often!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. Really appreciate it.

Winoweenie, that's a great suggestion. I think that should keep me busy for a while. There really does seem to be a wealth of information on this board that I can learn from. What fascinates me the most about wine is that no one knows everything about it and it's a never ending journey of discovery (one that I have just started admittingly)

Thanks for the welcome Engineer. Will try and share as much as I can as I'm trying new wines.
