1970 Cos d'Estournel - TheEngineer - 11-01-2014 Ever since I had the 1961 Margaux, I've been trying in vain to recreate that experience but at a much lower cost.... this one did not do it either but. For a wine that is 44 years old and should be vinegar by now, this one is standing up. All teriary notes. (bottle file was top shoulder so some air), initially some oxidized notes but that blew off. Initial taste was one of body and acidity dominating the first sip, but this wine came back. Roasted meats, some dried fruits, tea, but the acidity is large, the wine is not what one would call completely balanced but it was not bad either. I'm guessing its definitely time to drink up and enjoy what power it has left in the bottle. RE: 1970 Cos d'Estournel - winoweenie - 11-03-2014 Now aren't you glad you took the weeners' class in spelling 101? WW (Don't open any locks with that bottle Eng) RE: 1970 Cos d'Estournel - TheEngineer - 11-03-2014 Maybe the ABV was a bit higher than I thought ![]() RE: 1970 Cos d'Estournel - TheEngineer - 12-04-2014 Opened another one tonight and even though the fill was just below top of shoulder, this wine was a nice surprise again. Consistent notes as above. |
