2003 Emidio Pepe Montepulciano d'Abruzzo - TheEngineer - 06-10-2013

Once every so often, a wine comes along and just knocks your socks off. This wine could have been so wrong. It was a hot vintage, the balance could have been so wrong,....and yet, it is an insanely good,..no great wine!

What is it like,...it tasted like a Italian dressed in the finest French country clothing. You know its italian from the finish, the higher toned acidity, the cheekiness of the wine. The initial earthiness of the nose, pleasant and then something about it seemed different already. Very interesting, moving onto the wine that is a serious ringer for Burgundy, before the insane finish, the rip roar of a sexy italian V8. So interesting. Only Pepe could do this.....
