2007 Cain Five - TheEngineer - 11-09-2012

One of my fav's every year. I usually like it with a bit of age but someone popped this so I stuck out my glass.

I was a it surprised, but then again should I be. Given that it was 07 I had expected a bit more umph, but this wine was still in the style of the house, very elegant, very fresh, the berries were fresh and almost crunchy, lovely lifted acidity, good medium plus density, very elegant package. Lovely wine but I almost had wanted a bit more for the first time. I'm not looking for a fruit bomb but I wanted the vintage to come out a bit more clearly,...then again may it is what it is.

Cain is another of the underlooked jernts that put out classy juice year-after. Love their 5 also. It normally takes 5+ years to come together. Have some of the 07s that I'll look into shortly. Opened a 97 a couple of months ago that hit "C" above high "C".WW

I agree. I brought a '96 Cain 5 one night to a dinner wine and the other wine, one of my favs, 02 Haut Brion. Cain Five outperformed the incredible HB, abet from a poor vintage but I like the 02 Haut Brion........
