- TheEngineer - 04-26-2012 Last night I was invited to a pre-auction dinner by Skinner Inc and as such had an opportunity to try some of the wines that they were to auction. All of the guests (10 in total) were also asked to bring a bottle or two to the event. As you can see, the list was rather decadent. My contributions were the 1998 Leoville Barton, and the 1995 Huet Vouvray, Cuvee Constance for the desert wine. I'll write notes on these in time but wanted to post it at least. Course 1: Maine Sea Scallops, French white asparagus, and morel creme Wines with Course 1: 2004 William Fevre Chablis Le Preues Grand Cru 2005 Latour Giraud Meursault Genevrieres Premier Cru Course 2: Fonduta Tortellini, Braised Short Ribs, English peas and Iberian Ham Wines with Course 2 1985 Pousse d'Or Volnay Clos de Bousse d'Or 1973 Lopez de Heredia Bosconia Course 3 was a selection and I picked: Assiette of Marcho Farms Veal, potato Mushroom gratin, asparagus variations, and cipollini onions Wines with Course 3 were 1970 Chateau Latour 1970 Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1998 Chateau Roc de Combes 1982 Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou 1992 Henschke Hill of Grace The guests also brought along 1998 Chateau Leoville Barton 1986 Chateau Montrose 1990 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Cascina Francia, Barolo 1982 Ceretto Bricco Roche, Barolo 1995 Joseph Phelps insignia 1985 Dominus And for desert to go with cheese and nuts, the guest brought in 1966 Fonseca vintage port 1995 Huet Vouvrary Cuvee Constance 2002 Chateau Yquem It was quite the night and the wines of the night were the two 70's bordeaux (the Latour was stately and the Mouton was spicy), if Musigny is sex in a bottle, then the 1990 Conterno is a #$!@# Orgy in a bottle...., and the three desert wines (Fonseca, Huet and Yquem) were insanely good, with the wine of the night going to the 1966 Fonseca Vintage Port, absolutely ethereal!. - Jackie - 04-26-2012 Wow.
