After our anniversary dinner yesterday we returned home and opened the 2001 Marquis Philips Shiraz 9 enjoyed outside in the gazebo. This wine is one when Sarah and Sparky really produced outstanding Oz shiraz IMO. Beautiful fruit, silky and velvety in the mouth. Flavors of blackberry, deep plum and chambord with hints of pepper, licorice and coffee. Just really sexy with a very long finish. Perfectly balanced and many more years ahead of it. This was one of the best shiraz that we've had to date. Wonderful.

Drew, IMHO I still believe that Aussie Shiraz and their bone dry rieslings (like Pike's) are incredible QPR... I honestly believe that Australia is on the verge of a major comeback... The 01 Marquis Philips sounds delicious

They better make a comeback quickly. Since [yellow tail] came on the scene, all the other really good Aussie wines seem to have been stagnating on the shelves.
