industry in general and myself in particular. Was informed that my dear freind Al Braunstein died yesterday. Haven't talked to Boots yet but will try to do so tomorrow. WW

A true loss. I can't say any more.

The funeral was today in Los Angeles so was unable to speak to Boots. Had a long talk with her assistant and will try Boots next week. Boots has been running the wineries sales for the last 2 and her son from a previous has been handling the administrative duties. Mite fly into Napa and see Boots next weekif she has time. WW

One of my most treasured wine moments was a 40th birthday party of a friend of mine who knew Al well. The party was held by the lake on the Diamond Creek property -- what a lovely setting. The DC Red Rock 1978 was not too shabby either!

The Lake IMHO is one of the loveliest spots in Napa. Have spent many hours there and have so many memories it's hard to pick one as special. I've been privilaged to stay with Boots and Al in their home on many occassions and had the run of the vineyards. After they built the new winery and put in the apartment I stayed there. Sunrise over Volcanic in the winter is spectacular. WW

If someone could write up a tribute article about Al, we would be honored to publish it in on Wines.com.

Condolences to his friends and family.
