though you really didn't know we were gone (except for WW - talked to him last night). Had a race (sailboat) from Milford, CT to Port Jefferson, NY yesterday. Supposed to have raced back today, but because Judy has an 0700 flight tomorrow out of Boston for business, we sailed back last night. The forecast for today was for very light winds and thunder storms (they were right, glad we didn't sail back in that stuff). Anyway, last night was a beautiful sail. We left Port Jeff at 2030 last night and got into Milford at @0200 this morning. Well, the whole point was supposed to be what we ate and drank on the trip. Going over, we had a bottle of Colin & Bouriset Cremant de Bourgogne with our lunch (also had some Hoegarden and Blanche de Bruxelles beer). When we finaly got there (we didn't win the race - big surprise there), we anchored off a sand spit in the outer Port Jeff harbor with about another 40 or so boats. There was a bunch of grills set up to cook all the strip steaks, marinated and unmarinated chicken, burgers, dogs, shrimp, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, as well as a bunch of sides. All the beer and wine came with the spread - if you were in the mood for Miller Lite or Black Box wine. Good thing we had a bunch more beer as well as 4 bottles of 2004 Tobin James wines - 2 Zins, a Lagrein and a Syrah. A good time was had by all - at least until we had to set sail back last night. Had a few more of our Hoegardens as well as a Chandon Blanc de Noir on the way back.

All work and no play makes for a dull voyage.WW

It really wasn't much work either direction. After the usual starting line dueling, we made it across on only two tacks. Not bad for an 18 mile race. Made it back on a single downwind reach. Both directions in fairly light winds, so it was kind of boring - made even more so because I forgot to bring my iPod.

Glad you had a nice weekend off! Sounded like a great time. You only get these outings with boaters. When was the last time you heard of similar gatherings with the people and the food and the beer, etc with car racers...... Naah..there's too much aggression there. Last thing you'd wanna do is intoxicate them. And with the nice ocean sounds, who needs and Ipod!
