Steve Edmunds reported on another forum that Robert Mondavi died this morning at the age of 94. I will look for a Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon to open this weekend in his memory.

Just read the report and what a life! 94 years old and countless years of making very fine wines.

Another dear and old friend gone. I'm beginning to feel like the last of the mohicans. WW

Saw that as well. Carole and I were fortunate to have dinner with Robert and Margrit in Honolulu in 1995. They were very sweet people. He was a true ambassador for the CA wine industry.

Heard this at work yesterday from a number of customers. The old guard is slipping away. Sad to see it happen.

I had the opportunity to meet him a few times. What a sweet man.

The State of California owes a great deal to that man, his beliefs and his vision.

Little trivia? He had a house on a hilltop overlooking the Napa Valley. The house was 10,000 s/f and had 1 bedroom. Why? He didn't like people in his house. So, he had a bunch of guest cottages built on the property as well that were fully equipt and the cupboards were stocked!

God Speed, Robert. God Speed.
