Knock on wood, but I've never once lost service with Comcast in 7 years.

I didn't have an internet problem, but somehow accidentally deleted or corrupted a key file to start up windows. In the process of fixing it we now have two Window XP systems. Now I have to figure out how to get rid of the new one and still keep the old one running!!!

- Glass_A_Day - 10-03-2006

Seen this happen before. Use system restore and you can jump back a week, restore the file, and loose the extra OS. It should be a 5 minute fix.

I knowed that!.WW

Be nice if it worked, GAD. My wife's tower crashed -- would not boot -- got an error message that a system file was corrupted, and to use restore. Restore would not run. It got in a circuitous loop. I took it in to a repair shop and they questioned my sanity (shaddup WW). Well, three days later, and after much hair pulling, the tech admitted he couldn't unscrew it either and was going to have to do a clean wipe and reload everything. I felt vindicated -- I can usually clean up the worst of messes (my F-I-L has a way of screwing up the guest computer).

Should work if it is booting though. Just to get rid of the duplicate OS. YOu might be right about if a file is corrupt or missing and the system won't boot at all.

- Innkeeper - 10-04-2006

System Restore would only go back one day.

- Glass_A_Day - 10-04-2006

Strange indeed. May have to do a clean install and delete the partition between the two OS's.

Well, I really don't know if it really was a duplicate OS or simply a duplicate User Account. All I know is that one of my visiting daughters yesterday simply went to the User Accounts on the Control Panel and eleminated the extra one; and all is hunky dory now. Peace!
