Hi;

My first time on I hope this works. Two questions.

First my dad gave me a very old bottle of Ferreira Porto Port 1954.
We drank it this weekend I gave it to a guy on a golf outing who loves port and hosted our weekend. Any guesss how much it was worth? I'm not a port fanatic but I must say it was delightful.

Second question. I'm a Cakebread Chardonay freak but I'd like something else to drink on a regular occasion and save the Cakebread for special occassions. I'm going to go broke enjoying the Cakebread regularly Any suggestions for a good back up plan?

Welcome to the wine board. In reply to your second question (since I can't really help you with the Port, although others here should be able to), here are three suggestions:

J. Fritz Winery, Dutton Vineyard Ruxton Ranch Chardonnay

Stags Leap Chardonnay

Iron Horse Blanc de Blanc (sparkling)

[OBTW, no relation.]

Columbia Crest makes a nice value Chard.

Thanks; Who will answer my Port question or should I ask it in another forum.

Do you have any other chardonays $12.00 to $18.00?

Thanks;

Chad

I forget how much the Iron Horse sparkling was......... just doesn't matter since I like it so much.

However, I am pretty sure that all the other(ohter)wines suggested are at or below the price range you posted.

Well just as I can not spell, I can not properly price anything. All of the wines I suggested are over $18.00 a bottle...... sorry about that.

Hey there Chad and welcome to the board. I`ve not had rhw Ferriera but other ports that are a little better regarded sell in the 225 to 275 range. Hope this is of some benefit. As long as you drank and enjoyed the bottle, it did it`s job. winoweenie

Also R.H. Phillips "Toasted Head" is a very good value Chardonay for under $15.

A wonderful Chardonnay is the 1997 Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches. It's not at all your typical oak-laden, heavy buttered chardonnay but rather, floral and silky. Might run $16-$18.
