Hi jbaconlv and welcome to the board.Don't go out and buy a new car on spec...you, unfortunately, have a dead soldier. WW

Verne, you are right about any monetary value but MANY well stored examples of 71 Chiantis are drinking beautifully today. I recently had a '71 Ferando Carema that was one of the great wines of the recent memory and in Italy last year tasted several nice '71 tuscun bottlings.

why is this wine worthless, i saw a resturant
selling a 1970 bottle of this wine for $1000.00 and i read a wine report stating that 1971 was one of the best years for ruffino chianti.

Because:

A) the "secondary" market (auctions and collectors) is only interested in a VERY restricted list of wines and this is not one of them.

B) we don't know where it has been for the last thirty years so its storage is questionable

C)A solid case direct from either the winery or a known cellar would possibly be of value but the odd bottle is either a curiosity or for drinking.

D) that Restaurant is a RIP-OFF!!!!!!! I would bet that bottle of 1970 wholesaled for less than $6 a bottle (probably a LOT less) in 1974 when it was released so they are just hoping some fool celebrating an anniversary or birthday will buy it.....

Just the facts, Roberto

One question: what is the "326/fl" part? Is this a large format bottle? If so, the chances of it being drinkable are better.

Well-said Roberto. I can't remember in my experience a Ruffino 70 or 71 commanding any major appreciation. Heck-Fire. I saw a 70 Mouton and Lafite on a list just last week for under 600. WW
