I have brought this up before--alas, to no avail--but will try once more.

The same questions pop up regularly, i.e. what is the best way to store an open bottle of wine, what is the difference between dry and sweet, and so on.

Why don't we develop a FAQ forum?

- Innkeeper - 03-26-2004

Couldn't agree more. Fingers are getting tired. As a matter of fact the subject of storing opened wine is not treated as far as I can determine on the "Wine Reference" section of the main page of wines.com.

- Kcwhippet - 03-26-2004

I'll second (third?) that idea.

- Georgie - 03-26-2004

That's a great idea! Even I, the clueless one, know exactly what you guys will answer to those basic questions, because I've read your answers so many times. Even though I believe that repetition is the key to learning, a FAQ page would really be a sensible thing to offer.

IK, why don't we begin to compile a list on this forum. Everyone add whatever items we remember as repetitive and then we put it all together, answer each, then give Jackie a holler.

What about, our favorite affordable (less than $15) wines for the most popular variatals. Such as Villa Mt. Eden Pinot Noir, Kim Crawford SB and so on.

And Foodie, you did such a good job with your web-site on wine and food. We could use a draft of that as well.

- Innkeeper - 03-26-2004

For starters I would like to add: "What is a good sweet red wine?"

- wineguruchgo - 03-26-2004

How about the basics of the difference between the varietals?

Just the basic profiles.

- Thomas - 03-27-2004

And, "I found this bottle of wine dated 1937; is it worth anything?"

- Jackie - 04-06-2004

Very good idea. I will put it together. Just let me know what the questions should be.

What about the answers to FAQ's? I can do a search for answers on the board and choose one --- or write a response that summarizes all the responses.

How should we go about this? Obviously, the less writing I need to do the faster it is likely to get done. I am a notoriously slow writer... one who likes to get every word just so. It would be nice to get this up sooner rather than later, right?

Jackie

Jackie, we should have a forum on which we each can submit the questions we can think of (and maybe the answers).

Some of those questions are above, but this loose format is too confusing to put together a real list. We need a format to confine the entries for ease of writing them up.
