Perfect labels do not even begin to imply perfect provenance.

The Hospice de Beaune is actually a hospital/health center. The orgainization also happens to own a famous old hotel in Beaune and about 61 hectares of grand crus and premier cru domaine.

The hospice was founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, Chancellor to Duke Philip the Good of Burgundy (1419-1467), to relieve some of the misery caused by the 100 Years’War. Since that date its work of caring and succour has gone on.

The title Hospices de Beaune stems from the merger of the Hôtel-Dieu with another local hospital, the Hospice de la Charité, in the 19th century.

Today the Hospices, thanks to their charitable endowments, manage a prestigious modern health facility. The original Hôtel-Dieu is now maintened by the Hospices as a historic monument which receives more than 400.000 visitors a year.

There is also a yearly auction of the wines produced by the domaine to help raise funds for the hospice.

I also got the impression, during my research, that Bouchard Pere et Fils is somehow affiliated with the auction.

Hi Busson and welcome to the board. You need to give more information. The Hospices owns vineyards in several of the major Burgandy areas. Post all that's on the label for better answers. (1964 was an excellent year for Burgandy) WW
