- Guest - 04-30-2003 My friend has a bottle of Chateau Petrus and tells me one would pay over $3000 in a fine restaurant for the privilage of drinking this wine. Is that really true? I am just getting into finer wines and know Chateau Petrus is very sought after. What makes this wine so good, and why this particular vintage? - Georgie - 04-30-2003 Welcome to the board. Did Jesus make this wine at the wedding at Cana? Sorry, I know you're asking a serious a question, but good grief! What a price! - wondersofwine - 04-30-2003 Curious, I looked up the price at Veritas Restaurant, New York City, confident that it would be on their wine list. The regular 1990 Chateau Petrus is available for $1900. The magnum (larger size) is $3600. They also have a double magnum. If your friend was talking about a 750 ml. bottle, I just found a restaurant source for you at $1100 less ($1900 instead of $3000). You can thank me by sharing the savings ($550) or by sharing the wine. Either one would be fine. Just kidding. I have never tasted Petrus and probably never will, so I might not even like it. (Veritas has the 1992 for $390 a bottle and 1997 for $950. I've been told 1997 was not a good vintage for much of France and 1992 must have been a stinker.) - Bucko - 05-01-2003 I've had three different vintages of Petrus, a Merlot predominant (if not all) wine. I have never found the wine to be worthy of anywhere close to the asking price. - winoweenie - 05-03-2003 Hi Arudman and welcome to the board. I can get you all you desire at the rediculously low price of 1295. Tell your friend I think his restaurant is using the Petrus as a "Shock and Giggle " product. Barnesy - wondersofwine - 05-05-2003 Going price, Barnesy? - barnesy - 05-07-2003 wholesale, 100 They sold it for 145, give or take. It won't make me rich, but as long as they keep selling 12 kegs of pabst a week, I'm in good shape. Barnesy |
