I don't remember the names of the shops Dan and Anne have mentioned (except maybe Whole Earth?) On another website Kevin G. was talking about his favorite wine shops near Atlanta and I though Dananne might want to check them out if they're not already familiar with them. One was Bottoms Up Beverages in Alpharetta. Gina, the new wine manager (since May, is one that Kevin did business with at her previous wine store. He says she is extremely knowledgeable and makes great wine recommendations based on his preferences in wine and price range. She also has some exclusive deals in Atlanta with small producers. The other specialty store he sometimes visits is The Wine Store in Norcross. The manager there is Keith.

Thanks for the recs. I had not heard of either store, but that isn't all that surprising, as I live in the city, and driving out to Norcross or Alpharetta is akin to driving to, say, South Carolina

However, that doesn't mean I'm never out in those parts, so I'll certainly stop in the next time I'm out there.

My favorite store in Atlanta is probably Wine Gallery and Market, which does a great job with smaller, more exciting stuff, and I also do a good bit of shopping at Tower Wine and Spirits, which is where we usually go for our daily drinkers, though the staff has put a great deal of attention into their Pinots lately. As stated above, we also buy wine at Whole Foods while we're grocery shopping. They have a pretty good selection, and they are able to get some neat things in quantities others can't.
