My wife and I are going down to CA in a couple weeks spending the weekend on the coast just north of San Francisco (staying in Bodega Bay). The main point is relaxation, but the russian river valley is not far away, and we wouldn't mind visiting a winery or 2.
Any suggestions?

The major tourist destination is Dry Creek Valley Vineyard. My first destination would be David Coffaro at the top of the valley. Not only does he look like Foodie, he is bona fide character, and wonderful winemaker.

I went to so many wineries last summer in CA that I can't even remember them anymore. I should have taken more pictures. In any case, I'm reading through my journal to try to refresh my memory ... Here are the wineries I visited in the Russian River/Dry Creek area: Dry Creek, Pezzi King, Lambert, Armida, Rochioli, Davis Bynum, Martini & Prati, and Kendall Jackson. Not surprisingly, the only one that charged $, and the least enjoyable one, was KJ. I would recommend all the others except maybe M & P. There's a beautiful view from Davis Bynum. Lambert has a lovely tasting room. Dry Creek is fun and the wines are a pretty good value.

Foodie,
It appears that old age is starting to set in, with all it's attendant infirmities. I'm about 5'7" and when we were at David Coffaro Estate Winery, I recall that Dave was a few inches taller than me (most people are). When you and I were walking down the hallway at Glenora, I seem to recall that I didn't have to look up to look you in the eye. Hmmm.

KC, if you haven't got pictures, you haven't got proof.
My recollection is that I walked about fifty feet in front of you--maybe that is why you couldn't tell my true towering height. I get so tired of my head hitting those flourescent fixtures...one of them actually burned my hair off, which is cause for another explanation!

Just thinking about this again, Foodie (no real reason). Judy had her digital cam in her purse when we saw you and Gene. I sure wish she had taken a few pics. The truth will out on May 14.

Height definitely has its down-side. Wife took my truck to Houston this weekend to visit her sister and pick up new fixtures for the master bath that she had ordered from there...and left me with her Honda Accord. Drove that danged thing to the ranch after church yesterday to do some work, and have been all gimped-up ever since. Little bitty cars outta be outlawed! Think I've finally got her convinced to trade for a decent-sized vehicle, SUV if not a pick-up. If she doesn't, I will, next time she steals my truck.
