Not as accessable early on like the Grenache posted on earlier but was fun to watch this lil' hummer develop in the glass. Med brite ruby. Reticent nose at first but after 45 m ins the earthy, red berry, spicy nose came on. Slightly astringent entry that softened markedly after an hou and a half, solid center and anoter 3&3/4 lapper finish. Notes of vanilla and some chocolate. Last glass would have easily been mistaken for an Oregon Pinot in a blind tasting. Needs another 3-6. Again, another new varietal for me but thoroughly enjoyable. Another box goes on order Monday. 90/92. 18 on the club. 12.5% alc. WW

Which of you characters moved this post? I know it is a Spanish wine but also is used in Portugal as a very fine table varietal...THEREFORE I choose to post under the No Catagory thread. WW

Nice post, and sounds like a neat wine. It's nice to see more and more domestic folks experimenting with one of my favorite grapes. Abacela in Oregon has been something of a standard bearer for it in the States, but some other folks have been bottling it recently in Cali, and we discovered that there has been some tinkering with it in Washington while we visited there this past summer. In the next year or so, there will likely be one or two Walla Walla producers putting some Tempranillo in bottles. I'll be excited to try them. I'm going to check out the Santa Cruz Mtn mailing list, too. If I'm not mistaken, don't they also do a Pinot Noir? Also, isn't it a student-driven project?

Dananne this vineyard IMHO makes one of the top 5 domestic Pinots. Their Pinots age like they think they're from Burgandy. I recently had the pleasure of drinking my last 75 and it was alive and kicking. Ken Burnap one of the founders of this property in 68 and Tom Dehlinger went to Burgandy and worked the crush at Romanee/Contee. Think they may have brought some cuttings back on the palne according to Ken. WW
