2004 Jean Bererd et fils, Domaine de la Modone, Beaujolais Villages Nouveau, Le Perreon ($9.49 Chambers Street). Alcohol level is 13%. Not your everyday Nouveau! We’ve never had or heard of a Villages Nouveau before. What meets the eye is the color of an aged out Moulin-A-Vent. It gives you mature red cherries on the nose and upfront. No, there was not a lot of complexity across the palate; but there were nuances of spices and lush fruit. The wine even had a halfway decent finish. Since it didn’t cost any more than an everyday Nouveau, we liked it very much as something quite different. We have another to drink soon too.

We matched it with the last of our recent ham loaf and salad in vinaigrette. It didn’t go well with the salad, but loved the ham.

Second bottle tonight. Matched with our Salisbury steak in mushroom sauce. Had to armwrestle true love for the last of the bottle. It was still holding well so will get some more if available.
