I'm looking for recommendations for web sites that review wines. I'm interested in objective reviews.

To be honest, I haven't spent a lot of time at wines.com but I seriously question the ability of a site that sells wine to be able to offer objective, critical reviews of wine. I don't say this to be critical - I'm just interested in seeking reviews from people who have no possibility of conflicting interests.

Any recommendations?

You seem to have us confused with someone else. We don't sell wines from this board (although some of the board's members are in various segments of the wine business).

You'll find plenty of objective reviews here. But you can also check these sites:

- Robin Garr's Wine Lovers' web site, at www.wineloverspage.com

- Start's Place, at www.stratsplace.com

- Wine Spectator magazine's web site, at www.winespectator.com.

How can any review of wine be objective? I don't believe that is possible.

Put five blind-folded people in a room. Give them all the same wine.

I am certain that you'll get five different opinions concerning the taste and quality of the wine.

Wine reviews and opinions are subjective, not objective, IMHO.

Gadfly, welcome to the board. If you look for objective, rational, scientific, absolutely accurate reviews of all Continental RED wines you need go no further than the reviews submitted by that internationally known critic " Winoweenie" His astute critiques are so Rite-On that it`s scary. His web site is " www.winetastewiththewieenie.com" WW

Well, I see WW has been drinking Tequila in the sun again..... <ahem>

Bucko

- cpurvis - 01-12-2001

Yes, Bucko. And it seems to be a WW problem that manifests itself on the Board with alarming frequency.

WW, go make yourself useful for once & give Jodi the wine country touring info that you promised a week ago.

I don't understand, why can't I access the web site?

All I get is "server must be down" or some sort of message like that.

Is the address wrong? Please correct this web site if it is not correct:

www.winetastewiththewieenie.com

I just could not seem to find it anywhere on the web...........

He can't even spell "Weenie" correctly in the http.

MrD, I too haven`t been able to crack the www site. All I can figure is that Bucko and Randy in their unabated envy of the professionalism and knowledge contained in this all-knowing journal, conspired to crash, demolish, and extinguish the images contained there. I`ll try sometime in the next decade to get it back up and performing it`s dedicated words of wisdom. Sheesh CP, I told Jodi I`d do it this week-end....`Taint like she`s leavin` Monday. winoweenie

I KNOW what you told her WW, my emphasis was on GO MAKE YOURSELF USEFUL

The operative word seems to be RANT!

Gadfly, I agree with Mr. D--their is no such thing as an objective taste of wine, which is why reviews mean as much to me as ww's Web site. Incidentally, I located ww's Web site and discovered some interesting photographs of naked people in vats doing unmentionable things to grapes in a desert with black helicopters hovering above them, the crew appearing to be taking pictures.

- winoweenie - 01-13-2001

Pictures and the story at 11. ww....On a more studied note, I too believe that any report on wine is subject to individual interpretation. YOU must do the tasting to find out what style fits your pistol. All of The Speculators experts, Charlies` son Roberts Advocate or all the guys and gals on the Grapevine can only tell you what their taste buds say about the beverage of choice. You can use them to help narrow the field, but eventually you must decide. Besides, that`s really where all the fun be! wionoweenie By-theBy Bucko, whilst I was gone did we annoint cpurvis our director of traffic?

cpurvis has appointed himself emperor... of what, I am not sure.... <ahem>

Bucko

- cpurvis - 01-13-2001

So, what's your point Bucko? The Sooners DID win.

And I promise that I will restore dignity to the office of emperor, & that no one other than WW, Slick Willy, Algore, & Jesse-the-rainbow-Jackson will be marginalized during my tenure

- winoweenie - 01-13-2001

Ah Yes Cpurvis the Sooners did win. Do you know the Legacy Of Tatum and Bud Wilkinson? That`s when I was at OU. Over 50 straight wins. The massive group of Great Lakes Players that were assembled to combat the then great Army Team of Blanchard and Davis and as a 36 point dog managed to lose by a whole point! You think this OU team could have carried John Rapazs` Jock....Not Bub. WW
