The Rays are in the World Series?! This is a total surprise to me. Back at the beginning of the season, they would not have even made my list of teams that would potentially get there. I guess there is a reason why they actually play the games.

Congrats to the Tampa-St. Pete region and my condolences to KC and Judy. We folded like a 2-buck accordian in the last month. WW

I've picked up the Rays as my pet AL team since the beginning of the year.

And the brilliant, brilliant minds at Baseball Prospectus did indeed have them at this level this year (Just a well-deserved shout-out for my generation and one of our revolutionaries)

where is KC??? Must be a bit on the sad side today....

I'm glad for the Rays. Hope they beat the pants off those Phillies...grrrr.

I'm here, guys. Yes I'm a fan of the local teams (Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and even the Bruins), but I'm not a fanatic. It may go back to college days. I went to RISD (look it up), which wasn't a major sports school. They didn't have any intercollegiate sports until after I left. Their best sport now is hockey, and the team is known as the Nads (yep, the fans cheer with GO NADS!!). If you want to see what the mascot - Scroty - looks like, you'll have to Google it.

Who wouldda thunk the Phillies!!!!!!! What happened to the Dodgers, Cubs, et al?

- Innkeeper - 10-21-2008

KC what did you design after getting out of RSID?

- winoweenie - 10-21-2008

The only design him had was on sweet Judy. WW

The Cubs can be explained the same way as the Minnesota Vikings in football when they are competitive. No matter how good the team is, no matter the regular season record (see 1998), etc. no one actually expects them to win it all. Usually they beat themselves and fail to win it all. Don't know about the Dodgers.

IK, Pay no attention to the Weener. Anyway, I went to RISD originally for Landscape Architecture, but when I left I went to work for Raytheon and designed all sorts of things like radar arrays, several parts of the Apollo (LEM guidance system, Rover scientific package), TRIDENT fire control system, SAM-D guidance system (which ultimately morphed into the Patriot), and a few other goodies.
