WSJ this morning confirms my gut feel for the high-end left coast wine market.... that it's tanking along with the rest of the economy. Must confess a certain feeling of schadenfreud at their misfortune. They've had it coming.

Yesterday at my local purveyor's....
Walking back through the storeroom (where the high end vault is located) my pusher saw me and eagerly asked if I needed him to fetch me something from the vault. His happy turned to sad when I told him I only needed a case of P45. Then he went on to tell me of the great deal he got on a boat that was repo'd. Eased my mind considerably.

I never fell in to that high-end buying frenzy, allocations, etc. Pure nonsense from my standpoint. There are plenty of good wines under $30 -- you just have to look a little harder. $150+ wines? Raspberry. [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb/biggrin.gif[/img]

P45 is pretty much P45. Basic southern Rhone. Only recent year that was inconsistent was 03 which like many from that year, tasted stewed.

How do you like the P45 Rose--with the accent over the e, of course?

Do not. It's quite monochromatic. We prefer almost any other Provencal rose (with accent that my laptop does not make easy). Our preference is actually for the lighter, less macerated, salmon colored pinks but pickins have been scarily slim this summer.
