Just got back from lunch with a few people in DC. Just wanted to post some quick notes on the wines:
Clos St. Hune, Alsace, Riesling, '99
Lots of minerals, good fruit, extremely dry; was told in 10 years, this wine will show something great; I thought it was good now, just not exciting
Domaine Weinbach, Cuvee St. Catherine, Didn't write the year although I believe this was the '03, Riesling Schlossberg--Almost dusty mminerality; great fruit; dry but still a touch of orange and lemon zest
Tardien Laurent Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc, '04 Very aromatic, great floral nose; Don't know the grapes but am guessing Viognier by the nose and beginning palate; the mid palate suggests Marsanne and maybe some Rousanne;
Marcassin Pinot Noir, Three Sisiters vineyards, '02 Great concentrated fruit. sweet tannins; absolutely NO bitterness or smokiness. Nice long finish. Don't know the cost of this but a very stunning wine. One that you can't put down.
DRC La Tache '96 Extremely dry and not much on the nose. Great concentration but the tannins are a touch bitter. Obviously closed for business. It also had a pinch of oxidation. A little dissappointed but in 5 years, I don't know if I'd say that.
Chapoutier Cote Rotie '89 Red fruit nose, an age component and a touch of oxidation; Some dust; same on the palate; medium finish. But better than the La Tache.
La Mouline Cote Rotie Cote Blonde '98, E. Guigal Nose has obvious chocolate with a touch of mint. On the palate more of the same add some concentrated red fruit. Long finish; decadent.
Cuvee De La Reine Des Bois, Domaine de la Morderee, Chateauneuf du Pape, '01 at first this wine was shut down like a 90 year old virgin. Nothing there whatsoever. I probably would have forgotten about this wine but the gentleman next to me tasted it again and hour after I did and all he said was "Wow". So I had to taste this again. Great nose; great palate; quite a stunning wine.
Chapoutier "La Pavillon" Ermitage '97; '91; '90; '89
'97 Definately not youthful but great concentration and doesn't seem to have lost much. Also a touch of mint. touch of barnyard, but only in the background backing some great red and a small amount of black fruit.
'91 Better fruit than the '97; Can't read what else I wrote here but very enjoyable.
'90 interesting black licorice note; thought that wouldn't be there on the palate, but it was..... even stronger there than on the nose.
'89 Best yet. This fruit is the most youthful of this vertical. Great sweet tannins; Longest finish yet.
Chateau Pavie Decesse, '01 Great nose and palate; not quite at its peak, but close; The fruit is quite unbelievble
The rest from here on out I stopped taking notes so I could get through the lunch.

All of the wines were pretty outstanding. There were 6 of us in attendence. Couldn't have had a better lunch..........

Makes me feel like a piker there Brapster. However after a little more examination I see that after throwing out the SWs' it's a normal lunch at the club for the BAWDIES. WW
