Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition. In the May 15 edition, on page 80, Harvey Steiman rates the Best-Value Australian White Wines. On top is Goundrey, Chardonnay, Western Australia, Unwooded, 2000 ($10 - 88 pts). Also listed is Yalumba, Chardonnay, South Australia, Unwooded, 2000 ($10 - 87 pts). Unfortunately neither made the magazine's regular Best Buys column. The only three chards to make that column, Lindeman's Padthaway '01, Meridian, Santa Barbara '00, and Yangarra Park, S.E. Oz '01, were all oak bombs. Only the Padthaway was rated as high as the Goundrey. At least Harvey seems to be getting the message.

Thank God somebody is getting the message!

Interestingly enough, in the April 25 edition of Dan Berger's Vintage Experiances (hot off the presses), Dan lists the 2001 Yalumba Unwooded Chardonnay ($10) as the "Bargain of the Week." Haven't seen it yet, but am looking.

Be nice!
How do expect us to survive when we supply so much quality oak to the industry!
