Take a quiet moment this weekend...

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Yeah, no kidding, that gave me chills when I first read it in high school... later had personal meaning after Hue', Khe Sahn, A Shau Valley.... thanks, Georgie-dear.

Our thoughts on this day most appropriately placed.

Georgie, that is my favourite poems period, it is something that I always read. I have a book on the poem from the Canadian War Memorial by Linda Grantfield and where possible, always wear a poppy on November 11th.
