2000 Matayac Cahors ($10 Blue Hill Wine Shop). 12.5% alcohol. God awful! Worst bottle of wine we've had in years. Grainy, flat, totally unrewarding. May have been a bad bottle.

Maybe not. I had the same experience. Methinks that Cahors under $12 just aren't good wines...but let me not generalize or else Tatsevin will hit me with his British wit...

Surprise, the '02 at the same price and alcohol level is a better animal. Since Mother is still in NH for a granddaughter's birthday Friday, just had a half bottle tonight. The acid and tannin were in better balance, and thus less grainy. Fruit more powerful too. Matched it with sausage and noodle caserole, and salad. Very nice.
