1999 McDowell, Mendocino, Syrah ($11). Our friend Dan Berger listed the '00 as the "Bargain of the Week" in yesterday's newsletter. That reminded us that we had a couple of bottles of the '99 downstairs. So we popped one with burgers last night. It was lovely. Nice fruity wine with pleasant complexity, and just a touch of oak. This is a very consistant brand, and would highly recommend either year based on our experiance and Dan's recommendation.

I saw the '00 at my Costco yesterday for $8 or so. I'll go back and get some.

Popped the second, and last, bottle with mesquite grilled lamburgers and eggplant salad. Much more than one deserves on a Tuesday night. Wish there was a Costco near here. At any rate, will keep eyes open for the '00.

IK, I went back pronto to pick some of the McDowell up and naturally...it was all gone. He who hesitates is SOL.
