This is a Cotes du Luberon from the southern Rhone valley. 13.5%, $17 at Moore Brothers.

This is a very serious wine. It seems like it needs more years. Some leather and red fruit on the nose, and generally a very typical syrah nose (I don't know for a fact that there is syrah in there, but it really seems like it to me). more syrah and spice on the palate, very long and I noticed some blueberry at the end. It seems to me that if I can recognize the grape that easily (I think) then the wine can use more time - at least that is how my palate seems to work, I usually have more difficulty recognizing the grape in more mature wines. Very enjoyable now though, and I will buy a case to enjoy over the next few years, starting in two or three maybe.

I've had the 1997 and I agree with you, it is a very serious wine. I was told that the 2000 was much better than the 97 though.
