Côtes du Rhône.
I wanted to LOVE this wine. Many folks were raving about it but I found it rather ordinary. That's not to say there wasn't something good about it. It shows a beautiful purple color in the glass. It's very silky, and becomes more so the longer in the glass. It's balanced and the fruit is pure and not jazzed up by oak but the fruit is lacking, imho. It's like spreading the most amazing looking blackberry preserves on a baguette or scone and the anticipation is building until you bite and taste, um, where's the fruit? It looks good and feels good but is lacking the flavor that your mind assigns should be there. I have a few more and will sit on them for a while as an experiment. 14.5% Alc/vol. $12

90 points Robert Parker (on the eRobertParker bulletin board): "Grand Bois's 2007 Côtes du Rhône Trois Soeurs (65% Grenache, balance Syrah and Carignan)...aged in concrete and old foudres...amazing display of kirsch, spice, licorice, this silky medium to full-bodied wine of massive deliciousness (WMD), gives readers an idea of what to expect from the entire S.Rhone's top echelon producers in 2007....amazing value as well..."
