- TheEngineer - 10-23-2006 Opened VERY TIGHT. This thing never revealed much of a nose. Nice mouthfeel, smooth but the fruit was tightly hidden, Some current, a little smokey, a little leather and minerals at the end. Over the course of the meal, it opened up every so slightly.....this thing was most likely in the middle of a dumb phase. Unfortunate. $56 per bottle. - winoweenie - 10-24-2006 The Cote and Hermitage both need 10 to begin showing their stuff. Opened a 78 Guigal Cote at 25yoa and 'twere lovely. Think I posted on it around 3 ago. WW - Thraz - 10-24-2006 I tried the 1998 a while ago, and it was still not quite ready (although very good). That reminds me, Kcwhippet was going to try it and post on it - KC, did you ever open that bottle? I'm curious of what your impression was. - Kcwhippet - 10-24-2006 My bad!! I was wrong, we don't have any of the 98 in the cellar. When I went to get it teh last time, it was gone. My notes say we gave one as a gift and we had the other late last year. Pretty much the way Eng described it, except ours was a lot more open, and would probably have been better if we had left it for another 2 years. Paid $38 for the 98 Brune et Blonde (at Fifth Avenue, Eng.) - TheEngineer - 10-24-2006 5th Avenue? as in New York?..I purchased at BevMo in Berkeley. $38 would be a good price to pull a few away... - Kcwhippet - 10-25-2006 Fifth Avenue Liquors in Framingham - near our shop (got the stuff there before our shop opened). - TheEngineer - 10-27-2006 Ah..thanks KC! I'll take a peak. |
