Costieres De Nimes.
80% Syrah and 20% Grenache.

Quite funky on the nose showing violet, ripe strawberry, bret and loam. In the mouth it is a muscular wine with flavors of blackberry and ripe strawberry, mushroom and roasted herb with a slightly bitter edge. Very "terroir" driven and I knew that Eileen would not like it and, with her first sip, she stated, "I don't think I can drink this wine". I offered to pop a more "fruity" wine but she declined and opened a Sam Adams Cherry Wheat. There's a lot going on in this bottle and I think it needs a couple of years to show well but the funk right now really overwhelms the fruit. 14%Alc/vol. Paid $11 after 25% discount.

I went through a bunch of the '05 of this wine at $8 a pop. I loved it, but as you say, quite earthy stuff.
As Mario Batali said to Gwyneth Paltrow on the great Spain road-trip show Spain: On the Road Again, "Some people like the barn and some people don't. Me? I like the barn."

8 bucks is a great price for this wine and, I too, like the barn. I think this wine will come together and be wonderful.

looked back on notes, was $9, not $8. Still a great deal!
