wow...this thing is bog. It's not so much that the juice is thick, but the wine is huge!. Deep dark brooding big angry thunderstorm purple, completely opaque. On the nose, BIG Dark Fruits, and a not inconsiderable amount of alcohol. Round round mouth texture and dense flavour but yet did not feel super heavy. But what it was was high in alcohol at 15.2% and that made its presences well known in the wine. Fortunately a big wine in front of it but wow, if I had drained the bottle, I might be talking like WW about some golf game...

That wine sure does sound bog

Seriously, I do love the descriptor "thunderstorm purple."

We have that one tagged for next year. In the meantime we have of bunch of TJ stuff to wade through this year including the '03 SR Syrah. Looking forward to the thunderstorm purple. The spring shipment is supposed to arrive on Tuesday according to UPS.

We had our Thunderstom Purple tonight! It came in the Spring '07 shipment, for those who lost tract. We were drinking these at the five year level, but kicked it up a year some years ago. At any rate we had it tagged for '10, but didn't get to it until tonight.

No problem, it still had plenty of very ripe black and red fruit, which took care of the nose and the tongue tip. In the middle there was a complexity to dream about, including more fruit, some smokyness, a half ton of spices, and other things to make you forget about the 15.1%. The finish lingered on and on.

We had it for dinner with lamb shoulder chops marinated in our mint, lemon, and EVOO mayonnaise; rice cooked in goose stock, and minted peas. Is this Monday? I can't believe it.

Popped the '08 tonight which came with the fall '11 shipment. It was as fantastic as ever. We matched it with broiled (too much rain for grilling) lamb burgers and eggplant salad. Yum!
