This must be what they call "halbtrocken" or half-dry. It sparkles in the mouth almost like a champagne, sweet, but not cloying, lots of fruit flavors, like pears and apples.

Good stuff. I wonder what it would taste like in five years?

Was this the twist top? If so, then it was not, but the regular Riesling bottling from Dr. Loosen. The carbonation you feel is typical of young rieslings and does go away with time. The vintage made for the slightly drier wine but is actually more like the Riesling Kabinetts that people like much for their crispness.

Hi Eng,

Yes, this was the twist off screw cap. It is marked on the label simply as "Reisling", and it was fairly sweet. I really like it, but would like to try a drier one next time. The Germans are hard to find around here.

Dry rieslings are harder to find and are denoted as trocken or Halbtrocken. The former is bone dry and the later can range up a bit from dry to not so.

August Kessler makes a great dry Riesling. I've had then before and they make great partners with seafood. I sure that there are many others from Germany. I think that there are a few domestic makers as well of this but am not sure.

I think I have found a shop in my area which has a fairly good selection of the Germans. I want to try an Alsatian (sp?) Gewurtztramiener too. I'll let you know what I find in the next week or two.
