1996 Hugel, Appellation Alsace Controlee, Gewurztraminer. At its peak, with no sign of fadding, gave flowers and spice on the nose and upfront. Apparent (if not actual) sweetness of the fruit balanced the acidity to wrap the whole thing up in a nice package. Lingering finish. Very nice wine. Matched nicely with grillpanned ham steak and spinach. Also, with the strawberries for dessert.

I'm confused. Thot you did not like sweet (even if apparent) with salty.

At least someone's perceptive around here.

Fruit WITH ham is pretty tasty where I be from.....

How was the acidity? The Hugels have always seemed a little flabby to me.

It balanced the sweetness.

Old is about the only way I really care for Gewurtz...

Had some 10-12 year old Grand Cru Gewurtz at a tasting a while back. Yowzer!
